Survey Plan Layer Commands

R3Survey organises drawing layers by survey plan. These commands let you quickly show, hide, or isolate the layers belonging to a specific plan.

Commands

R3HIDEPLANLAYERS

Hides all layers associated with a survey plan.

  1. Type R3HIDEPLANLAYERS
  2. Select any object that belongs to the plan you want to hide

All layers tagged to that plan are turned off.

R3SHOWALLPLANLAYERS

Turns on all layers associated with any survey plan in the drawing. Non-survey layers (xrefs, title blocks, detail survey, etc.) are not affected — they stay in whatever state they were in.

Type R3SHOWALLPLANLAYERS. No selection is required.

Use this to restore plan layers that were previously hidden without disturbing the rest of the drawing.

R3ISOLATEPLANLAYERS

Isolates a single survey plan — turns off all layers except those belonging to the selected plan.

  1. Type R3ISOLATEPLANLAYERS
  2. Select any object belonging to the plan you want to keep visible

All other survey plan layers are turned off. Non-survey layers are not affected.

R3ISOLATEALLPLANLAYERS

Turns on all survey plan layers and turns off everything else — xrefs, title blocks, base maps, detail survey layers, and any other non-survey content are hidden.

Type R3ISOLATEALLPLANLAYERS. No selection required.

Use this to focus the drawing entirely on survey plan data.

R3SHOWALLPLANLAYERS vs R3ISOLATEALLPLANLAYERS

R3SHOWALLPLANLAYERS only turns on plan layers — other layers are left alone. R3ISOLATEALLPLANLAYERS turns on plan layers and turns off everything else.

R3TOGGLEPLANOVERRIDES

Toggles colour overrides for a survey plan. When overrides are on, all layers in the plan are set to the plan's assigned colour — useful for visually distinguishing one plan from another. When overrides are off, each layer returns to its individual colour.

  1. Type R3TOGGLEPLANOVERRIDES
  2. Select any object belonging to the plan

The toggle only affects colour — no other layer property (linetype, lineweight, plot style) is changed.

Before applying overrides, R3Survey snapshots the current layer colours so they can be restored exactly when you toggle back. The snapshot is saved with the drawing, so the round-trip survives save/reopen.

R3UPDATELAYERSTATES

Adds or updates survey plan layers in existing AutoCAD layer states. This prevents plan layers from being turned off when you restore a layer state that was saved before the plan layers existed.

  1. Type R3UPDATELAYERSTATES
  2. Select which layer states to update (checkbox list)
  3. Select which survey plans to include (checkbox list, all checked by default)
  4. Click Update

Only the layers from the selected survey plans are added to the selected layer states — other plans are not affected. Each plan layer is added as ON and thawed, with its current colour, lineweight, linetype, and plot style from the drawing.

You can run this command again after changing layer properties. It updates the stored properties for plan layers that are already in the state, so you don't need to remove and re-add them.

Tip

If your drawing has multiple survey plans but a layer state should only show one of them, uncheck the plans you don't want before clicking Update.
