Import Points CSV (R3IMPORTPOINTSCSV)

Command: R3IMPORTPOINTSCSV Available in: Civil 3D only

Imports points from a CSV file and creates Civil 3D CogoPoints. Designed to work with CSV files produced by R3EXPORTPOINTS, but accepts any CSV with columns for number, easting, northing, elevation, and code.

Usage

  1. Type R3IMPORTPOINTSCSV
  2. Select the CSV file in the Open dialog
  3. Choose whether to skip duplicate points:

Yes (default) Skip any point that is within 1 mm of an existing CogoPoint (checks E, N, and Z)
No Import all points regardless of existing points
  1. Points are created and logged to the command line

CSV format

The expected format is:

  • Header row — automatically detected and skipped. If the Easting column of a row cannot be parsed as a number, the row is silently skipped. This means CSV files with or without a header row are handled without any user intervention.
  • Code column — optional. If present, it is written to the CogoPoint's RawDescription and description keys are applied.
  • Minimum columns — at least 3 (Number, Easting, Northing). Elevation defaults to 0 if not provided.
  • Quoted fields — supported (standard CSV quoting with double-quotes).

Duplicate detection

When Skip duplicates is enabled (the default), R3Survey collects all existing CogoPoint positions before importing. Each incoming point is checked against existing points using a 1 mm tolerance on all three axes (Easting, Northing, and Elevation).

Points that are imported during the same session are also tracked, so if the CSV contains duplicate rows they will be caught too.

Command line output

Each point is logged as it is processed:
